Verstappen Stuns McLaren with Pole Position at Japanese Grand Prix
Max Verstappen delivered a stunning performance in qualifying for the Japanese Grand Prix, securing pole position ahead of the in-form McLaren duo, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri.
The Red Bull driver, and reigning Formula 1 world champion, unleashed one of the most impressive laps of his career at Suzuka, narrowly edging out the McLaren pair who were expected to lock out the front row based on their dominant pace throughout the weekend.
Tsukuba Troubles for Tsunoda
On the flip side, local hero Yuki Tsunoda endured a forgettable qualifying debut for Red Bull Racing. The Japanese driver failed to reach Q3 and was even outpaced by former Red Bull talent Liam Lawson, now racing for the team’s junior outfit. A disappointing start for Tsunoda, who had hoped to impress on home soil.
The Japanese Grand Prix race will take place tomorrow, with lights out scheduled for 07:00 CET. All eyes will be on Verstappen to see if he can convert pole into another statement win — or if McLaren will bounce back and reclaim their momentum in the 2025 title fight.
