Marquinhos on Brazil's Defeat to Argentina: "It's a Shame"
Brazil captain Marquinhos did not hold back after his side suffered a crushing 4-1 loss to Argentina in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers—the first time in history that Brazil have conceded four goals in a single qualifier.
"It's hard to even speak after a game like this. It’s a shame—an extremely painful loss, especially in such a huge match. It’s tough to take," he told Globo.
"We started the game very poorly—much worse than we could have. It’s not just the coach’s fault. The players carry responsibility too. The way we performed today cannot happen again."
"We’re all capable of much more. We need to share the blame. It’s about recognizing the moment we’re in and showing humility. We didn’t play at the level required. But I believe we’ll get through this together."
Following the defeat, Brazil dropped to fourth place in the CONMEBOL World Cup qualification standings.
