Benfica Players and Staff Attacked by Fans After Shock 1-3 Defeat to Casa Pia
Benfica players and coaching staff were subjected to a hostile attack from their own fans following the team's shocking 1-3 defeat to Casa Pia in the latest round of the Portuguese league.
As the squad made its way to the team bus, a group of ultras verbally abused the players and coaching staff, hurling objects in their direction in an expression of frustration and anger over the disappointing result.
One of the incidents was captured on video, though Ukrainian goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin was notably absent from the footage.
This is not the first time Benfica has faced such hostility from its own supporters. In 2020, the club experienced a similar ordeal when two first-team players suffered injuries after fans attacked the team bus following a disappointing performance.
Benfica’s management has yet to issue an official statement regarding the latest incident, but it raises concerns about the escalating tensions between the club and its passionate fanbase.
