Much of the game went back and forth, with Sporting looking for a win to boost their chances of advancing. Despite Leipzig's elimination already being confirmed, they did not back down and pushed for goals, taking the lead after less than 20 minutes through Šeško and restoring their advantage quickly following Gyökeres' equaliser.
