Inter Defeats Atalanta to Reach Italian Super Cup Final
Inter Milan has secured their place in the final of the Italian Super Cup after a commanding 2-0 victory over Atalanta. The tournament, continuing the tradition of recent years, is being held in Saudi Arabia.
The semifinal clash was particularly intriguing as it featured two of Serie A's current frontrunners. The deadlock was broken early in the second half when Denzel Dumfries scored a stunning overhead kick following a corner, giving Inter the lead.
The Dutch right-back made history as only the fifth Dutch player to score in an Italian Super Cup match, joining legends such as Frank Rijkaard, Marco van Basten, Ruud Gullit, and Wesley Sneijder. Dumfries further emulated Van Basten by netting twice in the same match. His second goal came in the 61st minute, finishing a swift counterattack with a precise shot under the crossbar.
The second semifinal will see Juventus face AC Milan on January 3, with the winner set to meet Inter in the final.
