Is Milan Ready to Move On from Fonseca? Catalan Media Hint at Xavi as Successor
According to Catalan outlet El Nacional, former Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez is reportedly in talks with AC Milan, fueling speculation that current head coach Paulo Fonseca could soon be replaced.
This news comes despite Fonseca recently leading Milan to some impressive performances, including a notable away victory over Real Madrid. However, the club's management is reportedly dissatisfied with the team's overall style of play and lack of consistency in Serie A.
The main criticism aimed at Fonseca is Milan's poor league position. Currently sitting in eighth place, the Rossoneri are far from the title race for the Scudetto. Their recent form has been concerning, with just one win in their last five league matches.
Xavi, who guided Barcelona to the La Liga title in the 2022/23 season, is seen as a potential candidate for the Milan job. However, his tenure at Barcelona ended prematurely the following season, as he was dismissed just a few games before the campaign concluded.
Whether Milan will make the bold move to appoint Xavi remains to be seen, but the club’s leadership seems keen on exploring options to turn their season around.
