Tottenham Appeal Rodrigo Bentancur's Seven-Match Ban Despite Accepting Charges
Tottenham Hotspur have officially filed an appeal against the seven-match suspension handed to Rodrigo Bentancur, following his controversial comments during an interview with Uruguayan media.
The midfielder sparked outrage after making an ill-advised joke about his teammate Son Heung-min, suggesting that Son could easily be mistaken for someone else. The remarks were deemed inappropriate, leading to a charge by the football authorities.
In a statement, Tottenham acknowledged the decision but argued against the severity of the punishment.
"While we accept the guilty finding against Rodrigo by the independent regulatory commission, we believe the subsequent sanction is severe. Rodrigo will remain suspended from domestic competitions while the appeal is heard and the Club will make no further comment during this time," the club stated in its appeal.

Spurs are now seeking to have the ban reduced to five matches, which would allow Bentancur to return sooner to Ange Postecoglou's side as they push for a strong finish to the season.
