Hungary’s assistant coach Ádám Szalai is in a stable condition in hospital after collapsing during a UEFA Nations League match against the Netherlands in Amsterdam.

The incident occurred early in the game, prompting Spanish referee Jesús Gil Manzano to halt play for approximately 10 minutes while Szalai received urgent medical attention on the sidelines. The match eventually resumed and ended in a 4-0 victory for the Netherlands.

Official Statement from the Hungarian FA

The Hungarian Football Association released a statement providing an update on Szalai's condition:

"Ádám Szalai felt unwell in the early moments of the Netherlands-Hungary match. His condition is stable, and he is conscious. He has been transported by ambulance to an Amsterdam hospital for further evaluation."

A Career Rooted in German and European Football

Before transitioning into coaching, the 36-year-old Szalai enjoyed a successful playing career, primarily in the Bundesliga. He represented clubs such as Stuttgart, Mainz, Schalke, Hoffenheim, and Hannover, while also featuring in the youth setup at Real Madrid and playing for FC Basel in Switzerland.

The incident has sparked concern across the footballing world, with many offering their support to Szalai and wishing him a speedy recovery.
