Andriy Shevchenko

The induction ceremony for Andriy Shevchenko into the Italian Football Hall of Fame has officially concluded. The legendary Ukrainian was announced as a recipient of this honor last week, and the final formalities have now been completed.

To mark the occasion, Shevchenko shared a heartfelt letter on Instagram, reflecting on his journey and the profound impact Italian football has had on his life. In the letter, he wrote:

"Dear Italian football, this is a letter from a Ukrainian child who dreamed of reaching you. Our first encounter was on television, and I fell in love instantly. I saw Maldini, Baresi, Maradona, Platini, Van Basten, Baggio, Vialli, and I stood still, as one does before the greatest works of art. I saw the passion of the people, almost like a religion. I saw stadiums brimming with history.

Dear AC Milan, thank you for believing in me. From day one, you made me feel like family. Together, we achieved so much, and I met extraordinary people, especially the Berlusconi family, Adriano Galliani, Ariedo Braida, and the Maldini family. We are Milanisti from the first day and forever. To be inducted into the Italian Football Hall of Fame is an immense privilege, and for this, I thank all my Milan teammates, the managers, and the fans.

Finally, I want to thank all of Italy for standing by Ukraine during the most difficult time in our history. What is normal for others is hope for us—the hope to be here, every day and always. Italy, I love you."

Shevchenko’s induction into the Hall of Fame is a testament to his contributions not only as a player but also as an ambassador for the game. His gratitude toward Italy during Ukraine’s ongoing hardships underlines his role as a unifying figure both on and off the pitch.
