Serie A legend Fabio Quagliarella has announced his retirement from football.

Quagliarella's contract with Sampdoria expired in June of this year, and today the Italian forward confirmed that he will not continue his career.

"I am forced to stop playing. I am now a free agent, but my physical condition is far from being able to return to the field. Now I have time to understand which path I can choose," Quagliarella told Sky Sport Italia.

The 40-year-old striker scored 182 goals in 556 Serie A matches.
