Gakpo: It’s an honour for me to be compared to Van Persie

Cody Gakpo inspired the Netherlands to victory over Senegal in their first World Cup game.

“It’s a fantastic feeling,” he told FIFA+. “It was an important goal and a difficult game, but in the end we did it together as a team. We scored two goals and took all three points. And that’s the most important thing because it was an even game.”

“Comparisons with Van Persie? He’s a legendary player in the Netherlands and in the whole world,” said the 23-year-old. “It’s an honour for me to be compared to him, but at the end of the day I’m my own player. I have to prove myself and do my best.”
