Klinsmann: Win against Iran was an exceptional start for England

Added at:

Germany legend Jurgen Klinsmann has praised England's performance in their 6-2 win against Iran.

Writing for BBC Sport, he said: "The 6-2 win against Iran was an exceptional start for England. At the start, Iran really kind of tried to slow the game down and my fear was they might slow it down so much that England would not get any rhythm.

"But then, even after the injury to the goalkeeper and 15-minute delay, England didn’t lose any momentum, they didn’t lose any energy. They were very, very professional in how they continued to play the game and kept the rhythm high and they were very quick in regaining the ball when they lost it.

"It was a very positive and impressive performance by the England team. I think confidence is always built on success. Not only have they won it so convincingly, they even got a couple more players on to the field who had their moment of success. It’s just a big boost for the energy of the group and the camaraderie."
