Cristiano Ronaldo has failed to report back for pre-season training at Manchester United.

The official explanation for his no-show was “family reasons,” which has been accepted by manager Erik ten Hag.

A report on Saturday claimed Ronaldo, 37, had asked to leave United. He is dismayed by United’s decline and convinced he must move to ensure he can continue to challenge for the biggest honours.

United have reiterated Ronaldo is not for sale. The Portugal international is under contract until next year and United have the option of an additional year.
