2022/23 Champions League: Dynamo Kyiv potential opponents
2022/2023 euro cups campaign will start unusually early for FC Dynamo Kyiv.
The White-Blues will begin the season with the Champions League 2nd qualifying round. This became clear after the Europa League final as Eintracht Frankfurt succeeded against Glasgow Rangers.
The 2nd qualifying round matches will take place on July 19/20 and 26/27 while the drawing procedure will be held on June 15.
4 clubs will feature in so called League path, including Dynamo, runners-up of Turkish, Danish and Cyprus leagues.
Dynamo will be one of two seeded teams (depends upon club ranking).
2nd qualifying round
Seeded
Dynamo (Ukraine) – 44
Midtjylland (Denmark) – 19
AEK Larnaca (Cyprus) – 7,5
Fenerbahce (Turkey) – 14,5
Thus, Dynamo potential opponents at this stage are Fenerbahce and AEK Larnaca.
If the White-Blues reach the 3rd qualifying round, they’ll be seeded again. Two winners of the 2nd round will be joined by 6 teams: bronze medals winners of French and Portuguese leagues, runners-up from Netherlands, Belgium, Austria and Scotland.
4 winners of the 3rd round will qualify for the play-off. At this stage, Dynamo can be both seeded and unseeded, depending upon participants’ rankings.
Speaking about all League path participants, only Benfica and Rangers are ranked higher than Dynamo, so if one of these clubs tumbles out, Kyivans will be seeded again.
3rd qualifying round and play-off
Benfica (Portugal) – 61
Rangers (Scotland) – 50,25
PSV (Netherlands) – 33
Monaco (France) – 26
Sturm (Austria) – 7,5
Union (Belgium) – 6
+2 clubs from the 2nd qualifying round
3rd qualifying round drawing – July 18
3rd qualifying round matches – August 2/3 and 9
Play-off round drawing – August 2
Play-off round matches – August 16/17 and 23/24
If Dynamo get through the 2nd qualifying round, they will guarantee themselves a ticket to the Europa League group stage at least.
Teams that lose the 2nd qualifying round of the League path, will feature in the Europa league 3rd qualifying round.
