Carabao Cup: Liverpool March on as De Zerbi Suffers Another Defeat

Tottenham Hotspur finally scored against a Premier League side — something Roberto De Zerbi’s team had failed to do since the start of the season. But even that breakthrough was not enough to save Spurs.
In the last 32 of the Carabao Cup, Tottenham Hotspur were far from hopeless, but they were clearly second best to Liverpool. The Reds’ two-goal lead was no accident, with Tottenham struggling to match their opponents’ intensity and quality.
Spurs eventually pulled one goal back, giving themselves a chance of forcing their way back into the contest. But that hope disappeared in stoppage time when Dominik Szoboszlai found the net to make it 3-1 and settle the tie.
Liverpool advanced to the next round of the Carabao Cup, while Roberto De Zerbi is left with some serious questions to answer. The Italian has only recently taken charge, but another defeat will inevitably increase the pressure surrounding his position.
Liverpool 3-1 Tottenham Hotspur
Goals: Alexis Mac Allister 21, Cody Gakpo 54, Dominik Szoboszlai 90+1 – Conor Gallagher 69.
