The 35-year-old defender was honoured before leaving the pitch to a standing ovation

Borussia Dortmund wrapped up their pre-season campaign with a 2–1 home defeat to Juventus, in a match that doubled as a heartfelt farewell to club legend Mats Hummels.

The 35-year-old defender, a 2014 World Cup winner and veteran of 508 appearances for Dortmund and 78 caps for Germany, was honoured before leaving the pitch to a standing ovation. Hummels walked through a guard of honour formed by both sets of players, marking the end of an era at Signal Iduna Park.

On the pitch, Andrea Cambiaso stole the spotlight. The Italian wing-back opened the scoring in the 16th minute, slotting home from a pinpoint cross by Pierre Kalulu. He added a second in the 53rd minute, finishing off a sharp team move involving João Mário, Jonathan David and Kenan Yildiz with a rocket past Gregor Kobel.

Dortmund pulled one back late in the game, as Maximilian Beier smashed the ball in off the crossbar in the 89th minute — but it wasn't enough to spoil Juve's night.

Pre-Season Friendly

Borussia Dortmund 1–2 Juventus
Goals: Cambiaso 16' (0–1), Cambiaso 53' (0–2), Beier 89' (1–2)
