Atletico Madrid were left frustrated in Istanbul after surrendering an early lead to draw 1–1 away against Galatasaray, a result that had wider implications across the UEFA Champions League group stage.

The visitors made a flying start and wasted no time in stamping their authority on the match. Just four minutes in, Giuliano Simeone finished off a slick attacking move, rising well to plant a precise header past the home goalkeeper. It was the perfect opening for Diego Simeone’s side, who looked sharp, aggressive and well-organised in the early exchanges.

However, the joy for the Spanish giants was short-lived. Midway through the first half, a dangerous low cross into the box caused chaos, and Marcos Llorente, attempting to clear under pressure, inadvertently turned the ball into his own net. The goal shifted the momentum and lifted the atmosphere inside a packed stadium.

The second half developed into a more cautious and tactical battle, with both teams wary of conceding a decisive goal. Chances were at a premium, and much of the play unfolded in midfield as intensity replaced flair.

Late on, substitute Antoine Griezmann nearly provided the breakthrough. The French forward stood over a promising free-kick in the dying moments, but his effort failed to trouble the scoreboard, leaving Atletico Madrid to settle for a point.
