Real Madrid crest

New Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso is wasting no time in shaping his squad, having reportedly presented club executives with a list of three must-have signings he wants in place ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup.

According to El Nacional, Alonso is pushing for swift action on deals he views as fundamental to his tactical setup and long-term vision at the Bernabéu.

Top of the List: Trent Alexander-Arnold

Trent Alexander-Arnold remains Alonso’s top target. The Liverpool right-back has already reached a verbal agreement with Real Madrid, but final details of the transfer are still being worked out. While his contract with the Reds expires on 30 June, Alonso is pressing for the deal to be finalized earlier so the player can join pre-season preparations.

The Spanish coach sees Alexander-Arnold not only as a defensive upgrade but as a key component for build-up play and width — crucial elements in his system.

Two More Names: Dean Huijsen and Álvaro Carreras

The other two names on Alonso’s immediate wishlist are Dean Huijsen, currently with AFC Bournemouth, and Álvaro Carreras from Benfica. Unlike the situation with Alexander-Arnold, both signings are expected to be more straightforward to complete.

Still, Alonso has made it clear to the Real Madrid board: he wants all three in the dressing room before the squad sets off for the Club World Cup. For him, early integration is non-negotiable.

Clear Vision, Urgent Timing

With high expectations surrounding his appointment, Xabi Alonso is eager to hit the ground running and begin molding a squad that fits his philosophy. The message to the board is loud and clear: time is of the essence.
