The Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, widely known as San Siro, will no longer host the 2027 UEFA Champions League final, following a decision by the UEFA Executive Committee on Tuesday. The stadium had initially been selected as the venue back in May; however, concerns over its availability in three years' time have led UEFA to revoke the hosting rights.

UEFA Champions League 2024/2025: Results & Standings

San Siro faces potential renovation work in preparation for the 2032 European Championships, an event Italy will host. These redevelopment projects are expected to begin following the 2026 Winter Olympics, which Milan is co-hosting. Due to these impending renovations, local authorities were unable to assure UEFA that the stadium would remain unaffected in 2027.

In light of these uncertainties, UEFA has announced its decision to re-open the bidding process for the event. The search for a new host venue is now underway, with UEFA aiming to make a final decision by May 2025.

This unexpected change underscores the challenges of long-term event planning, especially in cities with multiple upcoming international commitments. The selection of a new host is anticipated to draw interest from several leading European stadiums, each vying to hold one of football's most prestigious events.
